The Gentleman from Canton Part One

I have been fortunate to be able to meet many photographers, artists, historians and curators. The visit to the studio of Maleonn, a former production artist now photographer, is definitely one of those linings of the shiny variety. Many props, stages, costumes and imagery comprises much of Maleonn's studio.

 

 


His assistants, all very amazing creative people, are instrumental in prepping and bringing Maleonn's visions to life.

It is very interesting to imagine the art making process here in China. Specifically, for photographers, China has a definite "shoot first" policy. Many authoritative personnels have little idea on approaching or handling art in general--although, they definitely know what they do not want to see.

Though, I found making work in China, everyday people openly discuss the intentions when the situation presents itself to them.
